Notes: The first bunch of Tangerine Tree (consisting of volumes 1 to 8) was opened with a great audience recording of the Nottingham concert of November 8th, 1976, being part of TD's extensive UK tour in autumn 1976. The sound quality is excellent – in fact this is one of the best sounding TD audience recordings of the seventies. The third track was taken from the bootleg Collected Endings, that had heavy problems with the source tape: Because of the tape recorder running out of power during the concert, the recorded music became faster and faster when playing the tape with correct speed. This flaw was corrected during the remastering for Tangerine Tree Volume 1: Nottingham 1976, thus this CD presents the almost complete concert in a previously unheard sound quality.

Notes: Tangerine Tree Volume 2: Sheffield 1974 presents the only good sounding audience recording from TD's first British 1974 tour. Still very experimental and calm, it is of interest for those who also like the non-sequenced music of Tangerine Dream.

Notes: Tangerine Tree Volume 3: Bernau 2001 presents the premiere concert of TD's Inferno, performed in a church in the German town of Bernau (near Berlin). Inferno is the first of a three part composition inspired by the Divina Commedia (Divine Comedy) by Dante Alighieri. The Tangerine Tree release presented the music shortly before is was officially released on CD in March 2002 on the TDI label as Inferno; thus the tracks were untitled on this release and differed in length and number from the official release. The track listing above shows the titles and track lengths of a corrected re-indexed version. The material on this record is rather identical to the music officially released as Inferno, though some slight overdubs have been obviously made for that release. Each TD fan is encouraged to listen to the official CD to compare these two versions. The music on this CD was mastered from a minidisc audience recording; thus the sound quality is very good.

Notes: For anyone who likes TD's classic double live album Encore (1977), Tangerine Tree Volume 4: Washington 1977 is absolutely essential. This performance from TD's 1977 North American tour in Washington on April 4th got broadcasted on radio and was released on this 2 disc release including the complete radio announcements plus 97 minutes of music in an overall very good sound quality. Like the other shows of this tour, the Washington performance included Cherokee Lane and Monolight in variations slightly different from the official release, plus other tracks which were more or less improvised and stayed officially unreleased so far.

Composer(s): | Edgar Froese, Chris Franke, Johannes Schmoelling |
Musician(s): | Edgar Froese, Chris Franke, Johannes Schmoelling |
Notes: Before leaving for their tour of Japan in June 1983, TD played a concert to commemorate the death of Rainer Werner Fassbinder. They played on June 11th at the Alte Oper (the Old Opera House) in Frankfurt, Germany. A prolific director, writer and actor, Fassbinder had been one of the most controversial German filmmakers. The concert lasted only about 35 minutes and is featured on Tangerine Tree Volume 5: Frankfurt 1983 in completeness as an audience recording of very good sound quality. It consists of alternative versions of compositions that have been released on the live albums Logos Live (1982) and Poland (1984), plus one track from Edgar Froese's solo soundtrack album Kamikaze 1989 (1982), here in an embellished version with an additional harplike voice. Fassbinder was main actor in the movie Edgar Froese wrote this track for, thus this was a well-fitting finale for this memorial concert. It has never again been performed live by Tangerine Dream.

Musician(s): | Edgar Froese, Chris Franke, Peter Baumann |
Notes: Tangerine Tree Volume 6: Bilbao 1976 presents a concert that took place in the Spanish city of Bilbao as part of Tangerine Dream's European tour in Winter 1976. Like the other gigs of this time period the concert was improvised for the most part, including some themes known from studio albums and other concerts of that time. The sound quality of this release is not as excellent as of most other volumes of Tangerine Tree, because it was not specially remastered for this release; thus there are several drop-outs. Nevertheless this volume is a good example for concerts of 1976, a year which is supposed by many fans to be Tangerine Dream's creative peak.

Notes: Tangerine Tree Volume 7: Croydon 1975 features the remastered first generation audience recording of the 1975 concert in Croydon, England. Large parts of this concert were used for Ricochet, Part Two. The first 20 minute long track sounds remarkably like the intro of Ricochet, Part One, but soon develops into a completely new composition. Anyone who loves Ricochet (1975) will find this recording unmissable.
